Fabric:
COTTON
We offer 100% cotton fabric, suitable for curtains,
or light domestic upholstery. It is not suitable
for deeply buttoned or tufted styles of upholstery.
For heavier use upholstery, use linen union fabrics.
For those cotton fabrics with matching
wallpaper, such as the William Morris fabrics, in
most cases the fabric is the same colouring, allowing
for the slight variations between printing onto
cotton versus paper.
Fabric: PRINTED
LINEN UNION
Some of the fabric designs are printed on linen
union, which is a durable fabric made of a mixture
(or union) of 53% linen; 35% cotton; and 12% nylon,
which is added for strength. Linen union is a heavier
weight and harder wearing fabric than cotton, and
is suitable for all upholstery uses, as well as
heavy curtains.
Fabric: PLAIN
LINEN UNION
Our plain linen union is made in a mixture of 51%
linen and 49% cotton. It is suitable for all upholstery
uses, heavy curtains and wall coverings.
See Plain
Linen Union page.
Fabric: WOOL
BAIZE
This durable extra wide fabric is made of 75% wool
and 25% nylon. It is closely woven and comes six
feet wide.
See Wool Baize
page.
Railroaded Fabric:
This is a term that means that the design on this fabric has been specially printed or woven to run across the width of the fabric, rather than the more usual running along the continuous length of the fabric. This technique of fabric placement means that long lengths of upholstery - on the back of a long sofa for example, or on a headboard of a bed - can be installed without seams, while allowing the design on the fabric to be positioned the correct way up.
Railroaded fabric is usually a heavier weight fabric, and is almost always for upholstery, as long curtains, for example, can not be sewn without horizontal seams.
Fabric: WEAVES
The assorted weaves are made from a variety of fibres,
natural and man-made. The compostion of individual
weaves is given on the catalogue page. The use of
the weaves is also given on the catalogue page.
Most of the weaves are suitable for heavy curtains
and light domestic upholstery – some are suitable
for heavy upholstery.
DECK CHAIR CANVAS
This speciality fabric is approximately 16 3/4"
wide and is quite stiff. It is made mostly of cotton,
with a small amount of nylon added for strength.
Like all cotton fabrics, if left in the sun it will
fade, and your deck chair will look just as well-loved
deck chairs should look .
See Deck
Chair Canvas page.
