Cast metalwork, and wrought iron were two
materials that lent themselves to the expression of Art
Nouveau. France excelled at producing magnificent stair
railings and splendid gates. Belgium and France also were
masters at casting vases, trays and statues in the Art
Nouveau style, frequently featuring women in the designs,
whose flowing robes were incorporated into the lines of
the patterns. The Cyclamen flower is a popular motif within
the Art Nouveau design vocabulary.
